Torch Assembly Removal

  • Step 1

    Switch off the RF generator power using the RFG circuit breaker on the right side of the CyTOF® 2.

  • Step 2

    In unison, loosen the two thumb screws at the front of the Torch body. Set down on a clean, dry workspace.

  • Step 3

    Loosen the nut on the plasma gas line and remove it (with the ignition pin) from the Torch. Loosen the nut on the auxiliary gas line and remove it.

    Remove the injector by pulling it straight out.

  • Step 4

    Firmly hold the Torch body at its base and gently twist and pull the Torch out from the Torch Holder.

  • Step 5

    Clean the Torch and the injector following the procedures below:


    1. Soak in 10% Contrad® for 1 hour.
    2. Rinse in DIW.
    3. Scrub with a small glassware brush and pipe cleaner.
    4. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.

  • Step 6

    Spray isopropanol on the Torch and dry with a blow dryer.

  • Step 7

    Push and turn the Torch body to install it over the two O-rings of the Torch Holder. Sprinkle isopropanol as needed to lubricate the O-rings.

    Turn the Torch body so that the gas ports are oriented on top.

  • Step 8

    Connect the auxiliary gas line to the port closest to the Torch Holder and tighten the nut. Connect the plasma gas line (with the ignition pin) to the second port. Tighten the nut and ensure that the connection is tight.

  • Step 9

    Install the Ball Joint Injector by pushing and turning until it is fully inserted. Confirm that the injector is 1.5–2 mm from the end of the inner portion of the Torch.
  • Step 10

    Slide the Torch Assembly over the heater guide pins. Tighten the thumb screws by turning clockwise in unison.
