CD38, also known as T10, is a transmembrane glycoprotein. It is expressed at variable levels across most hematopoietic cells and in other tissues (i.e., brain, muscle, kidney). In the mouse, CD38 expression is down-regulated on mouse germinal center B cells and plasma cells. This is not the case for humans. CD38 mediates adhesion as well as lymphocyte activation. CD31 is the ligand of CD38.
