CD122 (IL-2Rβ) is a 70–75 kDa member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that, along with CD25 (IL-2Rα) and CD132 (common γ chain), forms the receptor for the IL-2 cytokine. CD122 is constitutively expressed by NK cells, expressed at lower levels by a subset of T cells, and up-regulated on activated T cells. The α and β chains are involved in binding IL-2, while signal transduction following cytokine interaction is carried out by the γ-chain, along with the β subunit. It has been proposed that a CD8+ CD122+ population of T cells may play an immunoregulatory role.
