The 12C2 monoclonal antibody specifically binds to CD304, a 140 kDa type I transmembrane protein known alternatively as neuropilin-1, BDCA-4, and VEGF165R. CD304 has been implicated in a number of processes including angiogenesis, neural development, and tumor metastasis. CD304 is expressed on plasmacytoid dendritic cells, where it aids in priming immune responses, and on a subset of regulatory T cells. CD304 may also act as a co-receptor for extracellular ligands including class III/IV semaphorins, isoforms of vascular endothelial growth factor, and transforming growth factor beta (TGF- β).
