Granzyme B, also known as granzyme-2, serine protease B, CCP1, Asp-ase, and CTLA-1, is a 32 kDa serine protease. It is abundantly stored in the granules of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) and natural killer cells. A low level of expression has been reported in granulocytes, B cells, and activated dendritic cells. The protein is crucial for the rapid induction of target cell apoptosis by CTL in cell-mediated immune response.
