Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), also known as receptor tyrosin-protein kinase ErbB2, is a member of the human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER/EGFR/ERBB) family. Heterodimerization of HER2 with any of other ErbB receptors results in the autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues within the cytoplasmic domain of the receptors and couples HER2 to the Ras/Raf/MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. HER2 is an oncogene that is overexpressed and amplified in up to 30% of human breast cancers.
