CD181, also known as CXCR1 or IL-8 receptor A (IL-8RA), is a 67–70 kDa member of the 7-transmembrane-spanning G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. CD181 is expressed as a homodimer, or a heterodimer with CD182 (CXCR2, IL-8RB), and is found on granulocytes, NK cells, a subset of T cells, mast cells, monocytes, endothelial cells, megakaryocytes, and oligodendrocytes. CD181 mediates neutrophil activation and chemotaxis, megakaryocytic proliferation, and angiogenesis upon binding its ligands including IL-8 (CXCL8), NAP-2 (CXCL7), GCP-2 (CXCL6), and GRO-α (CXCL1).
